Haddon's first book was published in - "Gilbert's Gobstopper" - which was aimed at children under the name "Penny Dreadful. The novel became an immediate bestseller and has since been translated into over forty languages. Haddon received an honorary doctorate from Nottingham University recognizing his contribution to literature.
